Even though YouTube is currently available through both the PS3 and Wii browsers, Google’s new website is said to be tailored to all browser-enabled products connected to the television.
Google claims the service – still in its beta phase –will supply a "dynamic, lean-back, 10-foot television viewing experience through a streamlined interface that enables you to discover, watch and share YouTube videos on any TV screen with just a few quick clicks of your remote control."
Quite how the stream quality will perform on a 48-inch Sony Bravia screen remains to be seen, yet the website’s interface will use larger text and has refined its navigation tools. Google has also made the sensible inclusion of an auto-play feature, an addition the web-search giant claims will "enable users to view related videos sequentially, emulating a traditional television experience.”
Google – which purchased YouTube for a cool $1.65 billion back in October 2006 – aims to make the service as international as its host consoles. Currently the channel is available across 22 regions and in 12 languages, though that figure is likely to grow.
"Our hope is that this site may help to accelerate an industry evolution towards open television access to Web video. Over time, we plan to add support for additional TV devices that provide Web browsers," the company stated.
The YouTube TV service can be found at youtube.com/tv (PC/Mac users are likely to be redirected.)
