Zynga and Vostu settle lawsuit

Zynga has settled its copyright dispute with Brazilian social game developer Vostu.

The Facebook gaming titan launched proceedings against Vostu in June, accusing its rival of "blatant copyright infringement" in its games Mini Fazenda, Vostu Poker, Pet Mania, Café Mania and MegaCity. Zynga pointed out the striking resemblance Vostu's games bore to FarmVille, Zynga Poker, PetVille, Café World and CityVille; Vostu's defence was that Zynga's own works were far from original concepts.

"Zynga and Vostu have settled the copyright lawsuits and counterclaims against each other in the US and Brazil," a spokesperson told VG247. "As part of the settlement, Vostu made a monetary payment to Zynga and made some changes to four of its games.

"The parties are pleased to have settled their disputes and to now put these matters behind them."

Zynga appeared to be headed for a victory after a judge took its side and granted a preliminary injunction, giving Vostu and the Google-owned Brazilian social network Ortuk 48 hours to take down the offending games.
