Zynga begins process of taking games offline, offers incentives to switch to other titles
Zynga has begun the process of closing down a number of its games as part of a restructuring intended to make the ailing social game developer profitable again.
The company intends to switch off 13 older titles, the first two of which will be FishVille and Treasure Isle – both games will be go offline on December 5. Players are being offered a “one-time, complimentary bonus package” to switch to other, more recent, Zynga games. The contents of these packages are unspecified.
“Hacktivist” group anonymous has claimed that Zynga intends to layoff a further 800 staff in November, and is threatening to release keys to files it claims contain the company’s games on November 5 if Zynga doesn’t back down.
