Worldwide sales of PlayStation Vita were just 2.2 million at the end of June, Sony has revealed.The admission came from German PlayStation boss Uwe Bassendowski at Gamescom last week, as reported by Playfront.de. Sony has since confirmed the figure in a statement to Joystiq.

Xbox 360 shipments down 35 per cent

Microsoft shipped 1.1 million Xbox 360 consoles in the three months ending June 30, a decline of 35 per cent from last year's 1.7 million.Despite that decline, Microsoft's Entertainment and Devices division – which includes its Xbox business – saw revenue rise 20 per cent in the fourth quarter and eight per cent for the year as a whole. That, however, was largely put down to the acquisition of Skype.

3DS outsells Vita 13 to one in Japan

Nintendo shifted over 100,000 3DS systems in Japan last week, a ratio of more than 13 to one compared to Vita's 7551 units.Nintendo's handheld was given a not inconsiderable boost from the release of Dragon Quest Monsters: Terry's Wonderland 3D, however, which sold over half a million copies during its debut week.The 3DS' total sales were more than double the total of all other systems combined.

Xbox 360 sales total 67 million

Microsoft has sold 67 million Xbox 360 consoles since the system launched in 2005.The figure was revealed in a blog post by Yusuf Mehdi, chief marketing officer at Microsoft's interactive entertainment division. Mehdi, a recent recruit, claims sales have grown each year, and that Xbox 360 enjoys a 47 per cent share of the current-generation console market.

FIFA 12 regains Nordic chart lead

Sony confirms Vita sales figures

Sony's PS Vita handheld had sold 1.8 million units by the end of March, the company has confirmed.The figure was revealed by new CEO Kaz Hirai during an investor call following the release of the company's annual results, which showed total Sony losses of £3.6 billion.

Mario Party 9, 3DS lead weekly Japanese sales

Nintendo products dominated sales in Japan during the nation’s Golden Week holiday period.Mario Party 9 retained the top software spot for the seven days ended May 6, selling close to 150,000 copies for the second week running, which was almost three times as many as second-placed Resident Evil Operation Raccoon City managed.There were no new entries in a top ten which included six 3DS and two Wii games, Andriasang reports.

Resident Evil: Operation Raccoon City comfortably outsold fellow new entry Mario Party 9 to debut atop the Japanese software chart during the week ended April 29.The Slant Six developed thirdperson shooter spin-off was poorly received by critics, but the PS3 version of Operation Raccoon City sold 252,525 copies, while the Xbox 360 edition charted at number eight with 16,285 units sold. Wii exclusive Mario Party 9 moved 152,883 copies to place second.
