With everyone so eager to protect their investments (and avoid MW2) will anyone stick their neck on the line and actually release their games? Obviously there are huge sums of money at stake here, but there is only so long you can wait before your concept becomes dated, the engine looks old and the multiplayer options seem too basic. Red steel 2 would have really helped Nintendo in relation to the Motion Plus this Christmas and it might have helped to regain a share of the (now) less-appealing "hard core" pie. Sports resort was good, but sadly most of the games appears to be nothing more than a glorified tech demo with only a few acceptions and after everyone realises this Nintendo will need something else with substance for the Wii users.... no wait, no they won't, they'll still rake in the money this christmas...
Perhaps this is the problem, MW2 is going to be a good game, but since its going to be the biggest thing since the invention of the knife which lead to the sale of sliced bread nothing else can touch it, except those aiming at a different market. The "casual" market (god, I hate that term) is the only one which is safe from the epic-ness that will be the lunch of MW2 and as Nintendo could sell the full set of the encyclopedia britannica to a blind man, they'll have no problem shifting a shallow sports game.
I wasn't saying that I think the situation is right, I largly disagree with interlectual property as something you can copyright. The way i see it is that nothing is original only arranged in a slightly different order.
Our "right" to lend games is actually as tentative as this whole thing, we only have the "right" to play the content on the disc, we have no more ownship claims on it than we do with the music on a CD or a movie on a DVD - we own the rights to listen/play/watch.
I'd like to wager that a high majority of those downloads are cheap, flassid attempts at a "game" designed to make a quick buck with bored iPhone users. You can't compare that to standard UMD games.
