Why wouldn't they expect the first Batman film to (FINALLY) be more or less based on the comics to do well?
At any rate, I'm kind of relieved. If it was actually well done you could base a game off of it, but for how these licensed titles actually are, there's something inappropriate feeling about tying in something to a film like The Dark Knight (or The Godfather for that matter).
On the other hand, the game based on Batman Begins was actually decent (especially technically).
Iron Man was an awesome film...but is anyone happy to have terrible games "based" on it available?
Even if either of those games dosen't turn out well, at least they're far, far more ambitious than what EA's done for years at this point.
Both look pretty awesome to me :) I'm still not clear on how Mirror's Edge will work from a third person perspective, but I love the theme, it looks great, and it's sure a nifty idea.
Crosswords DS is at the top spot because Amazon just ran a sale on it yesterday-it was going for $12 or 13ish rather than the normal $20. (Anything they put on sale usually takes the top spot or close to it.)
So this dosen't nessisarily mean anything about Crosswords, though it's supposed to be well done. (Personally I can't stand crossword puzzles or word searches, so I'm not going to try the electronic equivalent.)
Not to mention Blu Ray is technologically superior both in terms of storage space and in the bit rate it allows. It ticked me off that we had yet another format war, though as long as we had it I'm glad the better format won. Honestly I don't understand why they bothered to launch HD-DVD, as it was pretty much a forgone conclusion Blu Ray was going to win...all it did was set the industry back a couple of years in terms of adoption (and THAT'S why Warner, and Best Buy, and Blockbuster, etc. all decided to start doing what they could to push Blu Ray).
What did Microsoft "screw up"? I like the interface, and I think a lot of people do. It could be more straight forward in a few areas, but it looks nice and colorful, is zippy, etc. I couldn't tell you which I prefer between it and the PS3 for sure, but it's far from a screw up.
The main hardware issue with the 360 that I see is how crazy loud it is. I'm still shocked they ever shipped the system like that. Hopefully this install-to-drive option will more or less take care of that.
Not sure what you mean about the controller interface either. The only real complaint I have with its controller is the inexplicably terrible d-pad (which they could and should fix at any time). I'd prefer that the buttons be flatter, but that's really nit-picking. I also like that it offers a real wired pad-the only one of the three current consoles that does.
Who do you believe deserves real credit for their talent and dedication? Edge is taking nominations for our annual Edge Heroes - the Top 25 Game Industry People of the Year Awards.
