wow.... ive been an Edge reader for about 4 years, and a member of the website for a few months, never seen such a massive reaction to one of their reviews.
ive owned an 360, a wii, a (decent)pc and now i currently own a ps3, and will not deny i have been eagerly anticipating this title. Im sure the hopes of alot of ps3 owners (and fanboys alike) have been riding on this game to provide the kind of genre defining fps title that the format deserves. To an extent this explains the reaction to this review.
personally im going to bide my time and wait until the 27th to pick up a copy for myself, ive always respected Edge for their reviews, but feel the (ps3) hype surrounding this game has maybe clouded their vision somewhat, and for that reason they have given it an unfair score. i played through the demo, which i enjoyed a fair bit, although i dont feel i can give a decent review of the game. but what i do find it strange, is how so many other respected games critics have got it wrong. especially when you look back at Edges review history (halo 3, gears of war 2 etc) and see other good games that have all got similar flaws, get remarkably better reviews (and scores). This certainly makes me question if there is indeed a slight bias within the Edge teams reviewing policies.
im suprised that 3 of the exclusive ps3 titles have been singled out as some of the potential key moments of 2009, but am also highly anticipating all of these titles (killzone2, God of War 3, and quantic dream) and many more for that matter. They will most likely boost ps3 sales, and along with the inevitable price cut, sony will probably pull back a fair amount of ground in the sales and respectable titles war.
anyway heres to a fruitful 2009, its looking good so far!
good article, certainly provided a couple of chuckles at the descriptions here, some of which are 'so true!.
had a good example of a finger feat the other day when i was playing ikaruga for a while and was finding it hard to get past the 3rd level, probably went through about 30 attempts getting to roughly the same point every time, then from out of the blue, i completed the game whilst gettting the highest score ive ever recorded which was almost 10 million above my previous one, i was lost for words for a good minute afterwards just trying to comprehend what supreme being took control of me for that 20 minute bout of awesomeness! have tried to beat that PB since doing it and i cant even get near the score, which to me sums up a finger feat pretty well!

a top-draw collection of heartfelt moments that truly bought a tear to my eye, and a split in my side!
