Sounds like a lot of gameplay ideas that were already implemented in Warcraft III, years ago. This is not to say that they won't be improved or expanded-upon in DOW2, but just that Warcraft III deserves a little credit here...
What saddens me, however, is that no one seems to be commenting on the implications of patenting game mechanics. The industry has thrived throughout its history thanks to our ability to take each others' good ideas and then improve upon them. This sort of patent stifles innovation at tremendous cost to all gamers.
I thinks it's a great decision. I've been a subscriber to Next Gen's excellent daily newsletter for years now and Edge is the only industry mag that I bother subscribing to anymore. I'm a fan of both publications, but I think that Edge has a stronger brand and unparalleled graphic design/layout. So, I think that the decision to choose Edge as the brand (and hopefully the overall aesthetic) for both is wise. Kudos!
I was really looking forward to playing Grand Theft Auto IV. After all, I had read reviews that compared the game to Coppola's Godfather films and Doctorow's Ragtime.
