E3 09 certainly left developers and the press with a lot to think about over the coming months. The barrel-load of games is a given at any E3 and this year was no exception, with top titles such as Halo 3 ODST, Metroid other M, Metal gear Rising, God of War 3 and Modern Warfare 2 just to name a few. However the biggest shock came in the form of Microsoft’s Project Natall and its motion sensing capabilities.
In an industry comprised of many different and unique creative names such as Bungie, Kojima Productions, Epic, and Capcom you would be forgiven for thinking that when it comes to the fans they too are as diverse as the games they consume. However a new trend has recently come to surface that has seen the unification of the aforementioned fan base through means of separation and could potentially see a change in the industry itself…

I honestly believe that its a matter of both quality and quantity, not one over the other. XBL offers relativley smooth online gaming, a remarkable and robust array of downloadable content (game demos, pics, trailers, games on demand) an unprecidented heap of community support from various sources and the XBLA. In all honesty I think that if Microsoft are putting so much time and effort into creating and maintaining such a high level of online excellence, then surley somewhere down the line consumers should be expected to pay something. Not only is Live worth every penny, but your getting alot of free stuff with it as well and the quality of what you pay for speaks for itself.
Personally I don't think that PSN will ever have the same level of quality that XBL offers. The only real positive I see on Sony's end is the fact that its online service is free. PS3 owners constantly hold that against 360 owners and to be honest I think that, if recent rumours are true, PS3 owners will soon learn the error of their ways if they have to start paying for their online gaming.
In the meantime 360 owners need to realise that what they are paying for is well worth it and to be frank, it [XBL] doesn't cost an arm and and leg to renew.
Im a bit of a Halo fanboy tbh. I love Halo 3 to death, its arguably the greatest game I've ever played. The moment I started playing ODST I did, for a moment, believe that my idol game had been beaten; toppled by yet another glorious slice of Bungie beauty. Then I came to my senses and realised that the streets of New Mommbassa are too samey and it felt a little too repetitive for my tastes.
The music is phenominal, the graphics polished and the gameplay (despite looking exactly like Halo3) is actually rather surprising; Having said that I don't think its the best FPS of the year at any rate. Im waiting for MW2 before I cast my vote.
Thanks to those of you who took the time to read my article.
As a concept, Natall shows remarkable promise, however I too will not be looking forward to controller free gaming. I've been playing games for years and controlers are as much a part of my everyday life as pens, notepads and toast. Im just too used to them.

I played GoW 2 in SDTV and I thought it looked amazing. However once I played GoW in HD that changed. I was blown away by just how stunning the game looked and after going a few rounds online I could never go back to standard def...ever!!
