Xbox360 has the best catalogue, yes, but its also "fairly unreliable" to say the least. We (consumers) are setting a bad precedent, we are sending console makers the message "release your machine a soon as possible, no matter it works or not, we'll buy it either way".
This generation of consoles is the sloppiest ever (RROD, 360's disc scratch, blu-ray drive break-down on PS3, sony's infamous after-sale support, game patching the day after release) I'm skipping it. I'll stick to my PC until next-next-gen arrives.
How come are people here that don't care about toxics?
As far as I know, human beings breathe, drink and eat. We need the environment as much as any other living creature. If the enviroment is dirty, you'll get dirty sooner or later. You don't have to do it for the trees (we breathe thanks to them by the way) or the cute seals in the Artic, do it for you!
A chip based copy protection?
I can just imagine it: a common hardwired logic, the same for all the chips, and little ROM containing a decryption key, unique for each videogame title.
Reverse-engineering the hardwired logic sounds difficult but possible. I'm sure there are people out there with enough free time and passion to do it. And once they hack one, they've hacked every game out there and probably the ones to come in a year's time. Why? Because to change the design of chip and mass produce it takes time and is affordable only if you order millions of units, which means that Marx's (or Engels's, hehe..... nevermind) DongleRom, unlike Securom, won't be able to update their copy protection every month.
