Actually the key word is "SEEMS an absolute steal" which means "you might think it is" but the following statement clarifies the point. Honestly - don't get so worked up by one person's opinion (which is all a review is). Get the demo and judge for yourself.
You're joking right? That is a pefectly valid question given that so many "core" titles are not performing on the Wii. Why else would Marvelous be putting the sequel on the HD systems, if not to gain more sales?
I think you are all really missing the point. This is designed to attract a very specific market - 7 to 11 year old girls. I have 2 daughters in this age bracket and Hannah Montanna is bigger than god! Plus (in anecdotal evidence of their two combined school classes - nearly 60 girls) their favourite colours are Pink/Purple (tied) followed by (surprisingly) yellow!
They are not going for your older "gamer grrl" or wife of a hardcore fan etc. and I think it will probably work well for Sony. It's a cliche and we are all cynical - yes - but it does make sound sense for their target market. Nintendo has done it for years - build the fan base from the young ones up and you get rabid supporters when they are older.
I am actually looking forward to this one. My kids love the lego games and we have the last 3 that have been done on the 360. Plus they enjoy watching me play Guitar Hero/Rock Band but don't really have the skills yet to join in. This sounds like a good combination and will no doubt sells truckloads. I just hope they get the balance right for kids vs older players helping out so that everyone has fun.
Actually I can back that statement up, both anecdotally and personally. I bought a Wii for my kids (7, 5 and 3) last Christmas and they loved it - for about 2 months. Then they saw me playing my 360 and were far more entranced. Now it is there preferred platform and the Wii only gets dusted off when a new friend comes over who may not have seen it yet. Most 3rd party games have terrible "waggle" controls with only Nintendo titles worth playing. The kids are far more at home using a controller rather than trying to decipher which jiggle makes the Ninja Turtle attack etc. And it seems that way for other families we know as well.
The Wii sells well but tends to sit dormant for a very, very long time soon after purchase.
(Having the ability to download demos on the 360 for all the kids games is also a great boon because we really get to work out what they will like before purchasing.)
