I somehow doubt that Nintendo and Sony are freaking out over the iPhone/iPod touch games, I have an iPod touch and a couple of games for it. If you compare the games available to those on normal mobile phones, they are way ahead, but as a gaming format my DS wins out every time in just about every way possible.
Games have come to the iPod/phone as an afterthought, the PSP and DS are made specifically for them, there really isn't a contest there in quality or capability, not to mention the sheer amount of shovelware games appearing for the iPod/phone makes the Wii's games catalogue look like gold, mixed with diamonds.
"Despite this, 94 percent of the surveyed parents said they feel personally responsible for checking the age rating of the games that their children play. Unfortunately, only 60 percent of adults said they fully understood the current rating system."
What's to understand? There's a red label on the front that tells them their kids shouln't play the games until they're 15 or 18.
Well maybe if game makers weren't so eager to treat european gamers like shit with shoddy translations, late release dates (not to mention non-releases) and massive price hikes, perhaps more people would be happy to shell out for the games rather than downloading them.
Well this is a redundant recomendation, that's what the power button is for, and providing more advice? That's what the rating label on the front is for.
Why are politicians so obsessed with giving the parents excuses for their inability to tell their child they've had enough time on the computer/console and insist making it other peoples problems?
All Nintendo need to do to turn that around is cut the price and release the Wii in some interesting new colours, same as they've done before with the DS, and the consumer storm will resume.
If games and movies don't develop some mutual respect, all we can expect are films that are really bad action games and games that are really bad films, says Steven Poole.
