The typical image of the videogame player in the public imagination is the basement dweller who endlessly plays World of Warcraft. He has no social life (unless, of course, you count his favorite conventions) and most people avoid him like the plague.

I really liked this and never thought of Luigi's Mansion like that. It makes me want to plug it in and play it again.
I'm not sure how it is a re-purposed first person shooter, though. :/ Re-purposed survival horror? Maybe. The game is a Resident Evil clone in many ways, going down as far as the control scheme, I think. I never really thought of it as a parody of Resident Evil before.
I do like how this game did establish a consistent mythos for Luigi, though. Later games, such as Smash Bros. Brawl, Mario Kart DS and Super Mario Galaxy, rehashes the storyline set forth in Luigi's Mansion. King Boo is Luigi's rival, much like Bowser is Mario's. I would like to see that in greater detail again. I think there is potential to explore that.
The day that games go digital is the day when there is no profit for selling them on hard media.
I do think this will occur in the future. But as long as the Wii is as popular as it is, the games on store shelves, in essence, are a form of advertising. Sony and MS will also keep their games on store shelves so they can advertise against Nintendo.
Now when piracy is more frequent on consoles, like it is with MP3s, I think that's when we'll see digital distribution of gaming software becoming mainstream.
True. I forgot about that. I don't know. I guess I'm adjusting to the "new" Nintendo. Not trying to troll or anything.
I don't think I'll adjust to Wii Music anytime soon, though.
Is it me or has Miyamoto become increasingly arrogant?
While I do agree that making a game based off of your own interests could lead to more enthusiasm for the product, I also wonder if he is excluding a wider audience in favor of himself and his family? This could be dangerous territory. How popular is Wii Music in the US again?
For example, one can make a game about capitalism that tries to present its basic mechanics. But if you try to caricature it as better than communism, that is where problems arise. And vice-versa.
