  • Another one of the year's most popular Keynotes - from Fallout 3's lead designer - on the use of violence in telling stories, and the line he absolutely refuses to cross.

At Bethesda, Emil Pagliarulo has worked on Morrowind  and Oblivion and is now lead designer on Fallout 3. Before working at Bethesda, he was a designer on the Thief series, and worked at Looking Glass and Ion Storm Austin.

I want it I like it, it's my favorite thing about fallout.
There's no such thing as cruelty in a videogame.
Do you think you are making real humans?

There is nothing more repulsive than an unkillable NPC.
Morrowind had that great, "continue in a doomed world"
thing, but everybody and his goddamn wife was unkillable
in Oblivion.

You mentioned some dusty old classics that involve happy
children not getting killed, but the reverse of that is goddamn Fallout 2.
O_o I rather enjoyed killing those damn kids, they threw rocks.
And by then I had power armor and I could take down those
hit squads pretty easy.

PS: Deus Ex.
