I disagree with this article. PC games run just fine on pretty dated hardware. My system is 5 years old single core system, with a 3 year old 7800GS AGP card but I can play all the latest games, with mostly highest graphics settings so long as I'm happy with 1024x768 and do without anitaliasing and don't mind if I'm not getting 60 - 100 fps, but somewhere in the region of 25-30. The Witcher, Crysis, Far Cry 2, Assasins creed, gears of war, COD4, Race driver Grid and recently Fallout 3 all play very well on my system.
Only reason you might need to buy some expensive high end system for $1000 - $2000 is if you want something like 2560x1,600 with AA at high framerates. You can get by with a pretty dated system that was middle of the road 3 years ago.
Soon it will be time to upgrade, but it's not a requirement. If you feel you can't like with a game at max resolution, settings and FPS and want to spend a ridiculous sum of $6000 so be it. (would be quite a difficult thing to do unless you have multiple 30" monitors). Without those monitors I'd say you were being ripped off big time.
This was easily the best RPG of the last couple of years. I was sceptical because the original reviews didn't do the game much justice. There were bugs early on and I even had to upgrade my ram for this game because of the slow loading times. CD project really listened and fixed all these problems and let original purchasers at all the extensions that made up the recent updated release.
I think the reason PC games aren't selling as well as they could is more down to the lack of quality, or the dumbed down console ports that everyone has played several months earlier on their consoles. Doesn't leave much incentive to buy it a second time for PC.
I really appreciate it when developers put in the effort and respond to feedback from the community that builds around the games. Hope we see more straight to PC exclusives of the same quality and depth as The Witcher :)
Blu Ray would be a big step for 360 and would no way suggest that Sony won gaming. Bluray is now the standard for HD video and you can rent bluray video's at no extra charge from netflix.
I havent yet bought a console this gen mainly because I don't like nintendo or Sonys games, I like the 360 but don't think most video games are worth $60 so I'd probably buy maybe 5 a year. The minute Xbox 360 bluray comes out I'll get one and a HDTV. Hoping they will release one in Feb just in time for when TV goes digital and a lot of people upgrade their TV's to 720p or 1080p HDTV,
Otherwise I'll just stick to my ageing PC, which still gets most of the 360 games I like eventually :)
