My last post. I am feeling like I have a conversation with a bot (maybe a product of too much PC games playing?) and that does not inspire me.
If you read my links...
If you read my links...
If you read my links...
etc, etc.
Better is: if I were you...
Your 'facts' are the facts of a 12-years-old boy who wants to prove something he feels whatever the real facts are. You constantly change your direction: one moment the profit is important, the other the quality; one moment you look at the history showing that the origin of inventions is the most important, the other you look at the future. In fact, if I am to trust you, I would think that the consoles HAVE NEVER EXISTED.
I have seen your links and I have seen nothing except few films (not games) and few experiments which will not probably work as intended. And few articles of no merit.
Not from 'PC' gaming. And do not worry. If they had stolen the technology, they would have paid dearly for that. But there is no point in arguing with someone who does not know history well, but pretends he knows. Many links you've given, but I have been reading Edge for ten years now, and know a thing or two about PC games. Your links are of no use to me except in the case you found some secret stuff, unheard of till now. You see, a console IS a computer, not a stationary or sex toy (maybe it can be, I won't argue on that). And many, many inventions first came to life in one beautiful sector known as the arcade, but they were too expensive at the time. Maybe you have heard of it.
You want to sit on the two chairs. If all Japanese companies are losing money, that would be OK, but then someone could stand up and point that that the most profitable company in the gaming industry (yes, first, bigger than Microsoft's gaming division, bigger than ActiBliz, bigger then EA) is Nintendo, and the last time I checked out, they were Japanese. If the profit is the merit, then bow before them. But now, hey, I think that you would choose not to see it ("Nintendo makes stupid games", or something like that...).
About the mouse/joypad debate: traditionaly, mouse is more preferable for FPS and RTS games, but there are healthy indications that wiimote can compete with the mouse, if used properly (hint: Metroid Prime 3).
The phrase 'rehashed game play' is very dubious. How can you prove that not all RTSs are copies of Dune 2, all FPSs copies of Doom, etc. (the first would be the most accurate description, however)?
This discussion is utterly pointless. It may be valid only from the perspective of someone who wants to buy a platform better suited to his/her tastes, and seeks to find out better value for money.
First and foremost, saying that there are no good enough or even more complex games on consoles means throwing Japan out of the equation completely. And that is hell of a lot of people, with different tastes and different ideas, no matter what some people want to show us as stereotypal images of Japan-made games. There are strategies and there are simulations and there are graphical adventures. There is no more objectively deep strategy on PC than Disgaea. Anyone is free not to like it, citing art style or inappropriate humour, but if one wants to discard it on the basis of "depth" or "polish", he will utterly and completely fail. So, for example, these games are all different:
Street Fighter IV
Ninja Gaiden
Little King's Story
Disgaea
Ico
Gran Turismo series
Ikaruga
Professor Layton series
Monster Hunter series
Advance Wars series
Wario Ware series
Super Mario Bros series
Rhythm Heaven
Dynasty Warriors series
So, dreamhunk, my friend, do not speak about things you do not know about. Or maybe 'know' from Wikipedia. PC has its share of excellent games, but I freely admit it.
