It's a subject that has been brought up time and time again.
Has Nintendo abandoned the core gamer? Don't they have any new franchises in development? Have they lost their ability to innovate beyond simple, stripped-down games? Or are they -- in their quest to court moms and girls -- deliberately ignoring the pleas for games that cater to the core gamer?

Apologies if I sounded rude. While I think it certainly will be interesting to sell how GTA sells, I was just a little annoyed that you mentioned Koller's comments as if there was some truth to them. They are very obviously trash talk from a competitor and given their extreme nature, I figured it wasn't worth mentioning them as software in general tends to sell well on DS given its large install base and the fact that people of all ages own one.
Again, I think the M-rated issue is certainly an interesting one...I just didn't think Koller's comments contributed to the article in any meaningful way.
So, all of a sudden, games like Hotel Dusk and Final Fantasy IV don't qualify as "mature" any more? You don't necessarily need blood and sexual themes in a game for it to be mature as people below have pointed out.
I can't believe people buy into Sony's "12-year-old" bullshit. In fact, I can't believe Edge is actually promoting that kind of thinking.
I think Nintendo's 09 line-up will probably include Sin & Punishment 2, Punch-Out, Fatal Frame 4 (all of which we already know about) and maybe a couple surprises for Q3 and Q4 at E3. Overall, I'm very pleased with the Wii line-up this year. It's great to be able to rely on third-party support for once.
Glad to see Nyko's still going to be manufacturing wireless nunchuks. Honestly, it's about time Nintendo announced their own wireless solution for the people who want one.
Why does your article sound like the mass market titles automatically means the line-up is bad? Overall, I think that's a fantastic Q1 line-up for core gamers as well.
Tenchu 4, House of the Dead, Sonic & the Black Knight, Rune Factory, MadWorld, Little King's Story, GTA, Fire Emblem, Echoes of Time, My World My Way, Suikoden, Trackmania and Broken Sword...there's something for everyone.
