Never been a game that I was too interested in. And seriously, folks.
Perspective.
It's a game. It doesn't matter that much. Edge is notorious for its sometimes bizarrely subjective opinions. They have every right not to think that Killzone 2 is fantastic. I haven't played it. It looks rather derivative to me. So does Gears of War 2. And Dead Space. I haven't played those either.
The math of it all is irrelevant. Don't get hung up on scores. Read the text. Does it sound like a game that is interesting to you? Then buy it. Did you like the game more than they did, and disagree about the narrative content? Good! Post about it in your blog or in a comment.
I liked Valkyria Chronicles more than Edge did. I didn't accuse them of bias. Why should I? They're adults. I'm an adult. I own all three systems. They own all three systems. We have no push or pull towards either.
Also, Edge is the only publication other than 1up that gave Siren its due... Blood Curse was one of the best games I've played in the past year. So good for them.
As for a more critical ranking of flagship titles, I think that Sony's flagship choices have been less than stellar for the most part. They need to push more games like Valkyria Chronicles and Yakuza. Stuff that's unique.
Killzone... not even worth a rental for me. Fortunately, I'm not on metacritic, so you don't care.
Who leaves on their consoles indefinitely anyhow? Is the estimate of 40% of all video game users, especially PS3 and 360 ones, leaving their consoles on legitimate? I sure don't.
Also, think for a moment of the power consumption of these two devices: 15w for the Wii in operation, or the equivalent of... one small nightlight. And the massive powerwasters the PS3 and 360? Two whole lightbulbs!
TWO!
You better turn those things off before you pollute the world, Freddy Polluter. Of course, compared with, say, leaving the AC on, or that giant TV you use, or the massive cooling rig on your hepped-up PC, it's nothing.
So, yeah. Don't forget to turn off the lights when you leave the house, and turn off your systems, and you're doing okay. No need to panic or dive into dramatics.
rydamgw, excellent analysis. Wait, no. It wasn't. I think that EA needs to bite the bullet and get a comprehensive engine capable of using the PS3 built, but with that game, in that timeframe, most likely the cost of custom-building a workable PS3 engine was not going to meet the required sales to justify it.
It's not their job to make games for every system out there. They want to make games, sure, but they also have to make sure that the cost to income ratio is balanced. Evidently working with the PS3 for this smaller title would have required too much in the way of r&d.
Sony needs to do a better job of providing good tools to developers that want to use their system, though.
