Wizards and Warriors, heading to the first dungeon at night with a monitor that was so bad I could barely see past my player character's nose, when a skeleton mage rises out of the darkness and summons a bunch more skeletons who chase my newbie band of adventurers fighting for their lives(a couple didn't make it) in chaos all the way back to the town that burped us out an hour earlier.
The Elder Scrolls III: Morrowind, Stepping out onto the deck of the boat at the beginning and hearing the haunting call of the Silt Strider nearby, seeing the water ripple in the sunshine, some of the NPCs idle comments; especially the Altmers, 'I don't recall using teleportation, but there I was... alone... naked.' priceless!
