Artificial Intelligence (AI) has been a constant topic for discussion for games, for as long as I can remember and we've come a long way from units getting stuck on the scenery in early C&C games or teamates unable to go round a corner whilst following you unless you took a wide arc around it.
However, despite how far we've come there is one thing that irritates me about AI or more to the point, it's implementation in games. The examples I am going to use are all FPS because this is where I have found myself getting most irritated.

If Criterion can do it with Burnout Paradise - kudos Criterion.
Then Valve sure as hell can - sweet news - looking forward to it.
Sweet Jesus - come on people. It's only an opinion of one magazine - make up your own minds and if you like demo then buy the game.
The score doesn't matter a furry space donut in the cinnamon ring of the universe.
As I stated in a previous post - the review isn't particularly coherent and it's difficult to tell what the reviewer thinks is a good thing and which is a bad thing (apart from the plot and swearing, obviously) and to what degree.
As for the swearing being unecessary or over the top - I'm sure if I was being shot out of the sky or had something blow up in close proximity, the air would turn blue as quickly as my pants would be stained brown.
"Oh gosh, darn it - there's the dastardly Helghast blowing up every nice fellow I know" : )
There's only one real problem with this review: it is not cohesive or coherent - it doesn't really give the reader the ability to form an opinion from the text written and scores do not really inform, unless exceptionally high or exceptionally low.
There is no real indication if the things that are really great about the game outweigh the negatives the reviewer mentions. For instance, does the supposed lack of plot or swearing actually detract from the gameplay to such a degree that it destroys the fun in the game?
Also, the 'in conclusion' paragraph contains pointless flowery language and mentions a 'fanbase no one can overlook' - what has that got to do with the game itself? Bugger all.
My interpretation of the review would be: 'It's a good game. Technically astounding but with a weak plot. It has a very good multiplayer system and gameplay but in single player it doesn't really bring anything new to the table in terms of FPS games - hence the 7'
At the end of the day, we need to have confidence in independents like Edge to give us a cohesive and consistent approach to reviews and to have reviews that inform our own opinions. Sadly, this article do not bolster my confidence, in that regard.
However, I played the demo and I really liked it - can't wait to get to grips with the higher difficulty levels on the 27th.
Oh, and I could jump in the single player demo - anyone else?
I'm looking forward to this game - I never got my hands on the original Butcher Bay but I've just watched the trailer for this game earlier tonight. It looks absolutely sweet - looking forward to it.
Maybe Vin Diesel should stick to being his Riddick character in games of this quality (making a bold assumption here) but lets be fair this is bound to be a bigger hit than any of his recent films - sorry Vin.
Sorry to see them go - the Age of Empires games were awesome.
