Mostly because unlike local storage-based solutions (Steam, XBOX, PSN), if OnLive ever becomes inoperable, all the money you've spent on "buying" games through their service is immediately down the toilet. All the games would be permanently unplayable from the moment they go offline, with zero option for recovery. At least with the alterantives there's the possibility of hacks being made available to allow the games to be played again, but that will never be possible with OnLive.
