Mom and Dad are casual/extended demographic players... they buy the party/waggle games.
Little Timmy is hardcore and spends his allowance on his XBOX and pirates for the Wii.
Those that want the games to be available wont tell you that they want it for free, or simply want more nintendo IP... even if the culture is not as bad as i portray, i think a common argument is for the Wii being the inferior console or that it is for kids/grandparents and therefore not cool... and who wants to brag in school about having the latest uncool wii game
when i got caught up in my rant there is something i meant to say, and its that it is for the consumer to determine if its too high... simple supply and demand
it may sound silly, im actually really against a financial analyst saying that, if it were to come from EDGE reporter or from a blogger, or the community i can respect that... but a financial analyst.
As i already said it is his job to simply state financial analysis and how it affects stock and market instruments not to make a social commentary... what i expect from an analyst is actaully the opposite, for him to say that it being overpriced is a good thing, and whether or not that makes sony stock worthwhile.
But i guess thats what happens when you become an internet celebrity and you get quoted by every major outlet
or maybe it like any other new product has a high cost of production up-front (new plant, parts sourcing/contracts) that eventually tapers off.
The 3000 is (more?) profitable after years of improvements and efficiencies, as well as raw cost reductions.
and even if it were true (does Michael read this) when was the last time you sold your car and tried to get the least for it... thats just not how it works
Of course they are trying to be profitable, and as a financial analyst i dont think your take should be that of, "they are ripping the consumer off" (comes off as fanboyish)
but rather one of: Sony's revenue should be positively impacted by the PSP-Go since the pricepoint seems to have a high margin of profitability
and i know elsewhere he said psp-go uptake would taper off so lets add this
however this revenue bump may be offset by a reduced uptake in the months following release...
i know a way by which sales can increase 30% and your profit goes down
if you cut the price of your console it will sell more but you will get less for it... so there and i didnt even have to read an income statement.
I dont think the arcade makes money for MS, breakeven at best...
Does anybody have any insight on what it costs each console maker to put one in your house?
I would love to see that.
If games and movies don't develop some mutual respect, all we can expect are films that are really bad action games and games that are really bad films, says Steven Poole.
