I agree with the comment that its assinine to base the performance of one game across the board but there is truth in it; Madden 09 is just the best example of all.... See take the sales of say Bully to give you a better example; it first came out on PS2 exclusive and all and sold well. Awesome even considering the fact that it topped the sales charts for months. Then the whole exclusivity stigma wore off. Its was ported to Xbox 360 and Wii to simular numbers on the former and the shock, lower than expected numbers on the ladder. So Kris Graft has the gist of it but to convince non-believers im guessing we need a big ass chart with all kinds of gnarly data. Also i wanna add that its crap just saying because most gamers who own a Wii also own another console so that can explain the drop off. No. The Wii has a huge installed base, that doesn't make sense at all. Take the sales of the PS3 and Xbox subtract each one and you still have more people with a Wii in their living rooms than any other console. Remember we're the minority, us Xbox 360 and PS3 owners. Sony did a better job at selling software with a huge installed base just throwing that too out there.
Now on to the part of the program that features my shockingly dramatic and overblown reaction... Noooooooooooooooo! Tell us all something we don't know. Its been how many months that third party publishers have jumped on the Wii-Wagon purely for the bucks? And no matter how hard they try, making the game accessible, more fun, shoring up the controls, whatever they do its not enough by the end of the day.
For the most part the console is being over and misdeveloped for and bad ports dont scream buy me and shell upwards to a 50 just on a wing and prayer. However this doesn't explain what happens to good games selling poorly; this is what happens with casual fans in the equation. They aren't constant with their gaming so what do they care. What does a middle aged man or a old geezer care if say Burnout Paradise hit the Wii. They just got it for the Wii fit games and to appeal to the yuppies and or little impressionable kids.
Unless the ports get better and Nintendo actually does something to help the situation out poor 3rd party sales will be the norm. Period. Point Blank. End Of Story.
Putting all fanboy-ism aside for awhile. The xbox 360 simply put is a good console which was pushed out too early in the R&D phase. Thats it. The reason, fanboys, that Microsoft will even come in second this generation is because they had the gall to put thier product out there first and build their lead.
You cant have it both ways. Either or had to give. So what if they sacrificed quality and are hemorrhaging cash due to repairs? Its their prerogative. And remind me if I'm wrong but haven't we all benefited from this move? Better games and innovative hardware makes this gen the best in the industry and the big M lead the way. I've had an Xbox 360 before it scratched up my game and subsequently red ringed. Otherwise it was an awesome console. No different than the PS3 or the slightly less powerful but still entertaining Wii..
Ditch the fanboyism kidda's we're not in junior high anymore.
Yeah, i get your point; GTA's of last gen were fun but its a step backward to do so on the Wii and I'm talking about this from the programmers perspective. That is unless you'd rather go back to the limitations. No swimming, chopped up framerate, glitchy engine/save system.
That is what made the titles unfun and took away from the general enjoyablity factor. It was unfun to have the save system freeze up on you and ruin your game. It was unfun to have objects disappear and reappear as you cruised along. It was unfun to fall through a invisible "hole" to end up in front of the hospital. Unfun to fall in the water and drown. And since the Wii doesn't have the physical capacity to create a huge cognitive game and the hardware is less than powerful. I bet the dissension in quality as compared to what Microsoft and Sony's offerings can provide. It'll end up like GTA:VCS solid sure but marred.
However i can keep arguing this till the cows come home so.... Wait and see.
Come on WWE take your business elsewhere. This may be a long shot but how about signing 2K sports to a exclusive deal to develop and publish the newer SD! VS Raw games.
I can see it now, 2K then contacts AKI to develop it and by god we can have a spiritual successor to No Mercy or even Wrestlemania 2000. Think about it.
Wow, it seems like a good deal. Seeing how Tecmo is stagnating with their IP's and not publishing anything relevant these days.
What? You say Ninja Gaiden? Sorry but you just bored me. Just because you come out with updated iterations of the same game doesnt mean less than anything. DOA you say? If i wanna see big jugged women fighting i would watch some Foxy Boxing or better yet a adult film. Both are interactive... Come On Tecmo; take the deal SquareEnix probably has some good ideas for that catalog of IPs you have hidden in that storage place in Japan.
Tomb Raider Underworld producer Eric Lindstrom talks about Lara Croft’s essential personality traits, and why they’ve helped her survive all these years.
